Welcome to The Obscura Exchange - Nothing here is bought. Everything is exchanged.

About the Obscura Exchange…

The Obscura Exchange is a monthly story-and-artifact mailer: part fictional series, part archive, part object record.

Each month, one entry from the ledger is opened. One envelope is prepared. Inside, readers receive a piece of the record: letters, fragments, photographs, receipts, notes, symbols, and other printed remnants connected to the object at the center of that month’s story.

Some records are quiet.

Some are incomplete.

Some appear to have been waiting.

This is not a traditional shop, and these are not ordinary mailers. The Obscura Exchange exists somewhere between a story, an archive, and a collection of things that should probably have been left alone.

The archive will grow month by month, with each envelope revealing another object, another entry, and another piece of the larger mystery.

OE - 0017: The Mourning Locket

About The Ledger…

Magnus Blackshore started the Ledger during his travels. He was a collector and importer of strange things, many of which found their way to The Obscura Exchange.

Every object that enters The Obscura Exchange is recorded in the Ledger. Over time, the Ledger stopped being just a record, and eventually became something else entirely.

The Ledger does not explain everything and it rarely offers comfort. It records what was found, what was said, what changed hands, and what followed afterward.

Each entry is assigned a number. Each number belongs to an object. Each object carries a history — sometimes written, sometimes whispered, sometimes hidden in the items left behind.

The monthly envelopes are drawn from these records. What arrives is not the whole story, but enough to begin asking questions.

The Keeper: Vesper Blackshore

About The Keeper…

Vesper Blackshore keeps the ledger now.

The Exchange was not built to be understood all at once, and Vesper has learned not to force answers from things that refuse to give them. Some objects arrive with names. Some arrive with warnings. Some arrive already knowing where they belong.

Vesper’s role is simple:

To record.

To preserve.

To prepare the envelopes.

To know when a record is ready to be opened.

Whether the Ledger chooses the objects, or the objects choose the ledger, remains unclear.

'The Blackshore Ledger' and 'The Oscura Exchange Transfer Receipt,' all held together with red string, on a dark surface.

How the Monthly Exchange Works…

The monthly exchange is an envelope containing the next story in the series, a reproduction of the Ledger page, and, it may also include object records, printed ephemera, photographs, notes, labels, tags, fragments, or other related pieces from the archive.

The contents are designed to be read, handled, examined, collected, and kept as the larger world of The Obscura Exchange unfolds.

Quantities may be limited. Once a record closes, that month’s envelope may not return in the same form.

Do not open after Sunset.

Do not read it out loud in your own voice.
